| Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get to SCVS?
Directions
What is a veterinary specialist?
It’s a veterinarian whose training far surpasses veterinary college’s standard requirements through 3-5 years of advanced training in a specific area of veterinary medicine after obtaining a veterinary degree. This advanced training takes place through internship and residency programs. Specialists must then meet publication and rigorous testing requirements to become board certified. Veterinary specialists have demonstrated their commitment to excellence in their field by going through this difficult certification process.
Our education doesn’t stop there, however. To stay on the cutting edge, we attend and present at national meetings, participate in clinical research, and share findings with specialists around the country.

Can I visit my pet while it’s in the hospital?
Yes! Visiting a sick pet helps everyone in the family. That’s why we welcome scheduled visits weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. We also coordinate after-hours visitation with SCVEC. You can meet another team member if the primary clinician is unavailable to meet you during your visit.
