Comprehensive labwork:
We work with diagnostic labs around the country to diagnose a wide array of illnesses. These labs are also available to consult on difficult or unusual cases. Our consulting clinical pathologist (Jim Meinkoth, DVM, MS, PhD, DACVP) provides rapid and excellent interpretation of our cytology samples.
Radiology:
Radiographs, ultrasound, and on-site MRI are all available for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. While radiographs are very helpful for diagnosing certain conditions, ultrasound offers a much more detailed look at internal organs.
With this technology we can also collect samples to aid in diagnosing your pet’s illness. MRI is available for evaluating the brain and spinal cord, as well as certain soft tissue structures in tandem with ultrasound and radiographs. Quite often a combination of these technologies is used to diagnose and treat your pet.
Video Endoscopy:
We have a multitude of flexible and rigid endoscopes that we use to examine, biopsy, and treat disease of the respiratory tract,
gastrointestinal system, and the organs of the abdominal cavity. These scopes also allow us to retrieve foreign objects in the respiratory or gastrointestinal tract so that you can avoid putting your pet through an invasive and potentially painful surgery. Our surgical counterparts at South Carolina Veterinary Referral Center also offer an array of laparoscopic and arthroscopic surgical procedures.
Chemotherapy:
We understand how extremely difficult it is for you when your pet is diagnosed with cancer. We will work closely with you to attain the best outcome, always emphasizing the best quality of life for your pet. Our doctors work on a daily basis with your veterinarian, the surgeons at SCVRC, and radiation oncologists at other institutions to design the optimal cancer treatment plan for your pet. At every step of the way we will be available to discuss any of your concerns and answer questions that you may have. Please see our articles and links section for more information on specific diseases and chemotherapy in pets.
